Text: “And Jesus went up into a mountain,
and there He sat with His disciples. And
the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.”
John 6:3-4.
Good morning, passed over
Christian! God’s Holy wrath against sin
shall never harm you ever again.
Why? Because the precious Blood
of our Passover Lamb, Christ Jesus, covers you, protects you, redeems you from
your sins, and secures your pardon for all time and Eternity. Hallelujah!
We are free from the Heavenly
Destroyer’s punitive power! We shall, at
all times, be passed over and exempt from the destructive judgements of our
thrice Holy Lord God. Now, surely this
in very good news for your soul today, passed over Christian? Glory to the Lamb Who is worthy!
“And the Blood (of the Lamb) shall
be to you for a token upon the houses were ye are; and when I (the Lord God)
shall see the Blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you
to destroy you, when I smite the land
of Egypt (a type of the unsaved
world).” (Exodus 12:13)
Well can the Psalmist joyfully cry:
“Blessed (blessed with blessings) is he/she whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is COVERED (in the Blood of the Lamb, Christ Jesus). Blessed is the man/woman unto whom the Lord
imputeth (puts not to our account continually) not iniquity, and in whose
spirit there is no guile.” (Psalm
30:1-2)
Our two-verse text from John’s
Gospel today reveals three marvellous Spiritual themes for us: That Jesus went
up; that Jesus sat down with His disciples; and that the Passover, the feast of
the Jews, was nigh. Let us look more
closely at these three Scriptural themes.
Jesus Went Up: On that particular Passover feast,
the Lord Jesus Christ was ruthlessly Crucified on a Roman Cross - by the Roman
occupation forces; at the behest of the Jewish religious leaders.
All the enemies of the Son of God
came together that day in order to place Christ Jesus on that Cross and torture
Him slowly to death. Yet, it was OUR
sins that kept Him hanging there!
(Isaiah 53:4-8) Thank you, King
Jesus!
The sinless, spotless Lamb of God,
Christ Jesus, came into this sin-sick world as a man, in order to suffer and
die to bear the sins of ‘…His people…’ away forever. And after He cried ‘It is finished.’, He gave
UP the ghost, no man could take it away from Him. Christ died for to save sinners. Jesus finished the Sacrifice - and Jesus went
up. Glory to His Name!
“For I delivered unto you first of
all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to
the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day
according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15: 3-4)
Jesus Sat Down: One only sits down when the work
required has been fully completed.
Christ Jesus sat down on the right hand of our Father in Heaven to show
to all and sundry that the Atonement Sacrifice was complete. Hallelujah!
The risen and Victorious Jesus sat down!
(Hebrews 7:22-28)
“The Lord (Father) said unto my Lord
(Christ the Son of God), Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make thine enemies
Thy footstool.” (Psalm 110:1)
The Passover Sacrifice was
nigh: For hundreds of years the
Jewish Nation, and all others who were blessed with faith to believe the
prophesies of the coming Messiah, had waited and watched. However, when the Lord Jesus eventually came,
they were the first to reject Him, and put Him to death on that terrible Cross. They knew not that the true Passover was
nigh.
“In the fourteenth day of the first
month at even is the Lord’s Passover.”
(Leviticus 23:5)
“He was in the world, and the world
was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.
He came unto His own (the Jewish Nation), and His own received Him
not. But as many as received Him (you
and me), to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe (trust) on His Name.” (John
1:10-12)
“Observe the month of Abib, and keep
the Passover unto the Lord thy God; for in the month of Abib the Lord brought
thee forth out of Egypt by night.” (Deuteronomy 16:1)
National Israel
rejected Christ’s Passover Sacrifice on the Cross, and the Lord extended His
grace to we Gentile Nations. The Jewish
Passover became our Christian Redemption - for all who are granted faith to
believe, to trust in Christ as our Atonement Lamb. Hallelujah!
What a Saviour!
Thought: Let us go up, sit down, and
draw nigh to Jesus our Redeemer.
