Text: “And he
hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it,
and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”
Psalm 40:3.
Good morning, ‘New Song’ Christian! The Lord God, through Jesus Christ and His
Atonement Sacrifice on the Cross, has redeemed your soul and mine; lifted us
out of the ‘miry clay’ of our vile sins; regenerated us by His Spirit; and put
an entirely new song in our mouths. God
has granted us, by His free and Sovereign grace, a new song to sing in
testimony of His saving grace to us. How
dare we refuse to sing it loud and clear?
Hallelujah! What a Saviour! Salvation in Christ alone! Glory to the Lamb!
“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to
take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for Thou was slain, and hast
redeemed us to God by Thy Blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people,
and nation: and has made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign
on the earth.” (Revelation 5:9-10)
By God’s free grace to
Hell-deserving sinners, God the Holy Spirit has convicted you and I of our
sins; convinced us of Christ’s righteousness; and clearly showed us that there
will be a terrible day of judgment for sin sometime still in the future. (John
16:8)
We have heard the ‘good news’, the
Gospel of forgiveness of sins and Eternal Salvation found in the Lord Jesus
Christ alone and, with the hearing, received faith from God to believe; repent
from our sins; and received Christ as our own and personal Saviour. Hallelujah!
Praise God it is so. Thanks be to the Lord God!
“For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest
any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
As a direct consequence, you and I
are ‘born again’, Spiritually regenerated; ‘born from Above’; made a member of
God’s Family, the universal Church; and our hearts are both thrilled and
ecstatically happy! We are fully assured
of our place in Heaven, because, by God’s Sovereign grace, we have believed
God’s Word concerning such deep Spiritual matters. We have done Eternally well,
praise God! (Num. 23:19)
However, that should not be the end
of the matter, my friend. For, if we
have found this great and wonderful Salvation treasure, in Christ Jesus, we are
not to keep this fact to ourselves. No! We are commanded of the Lord God to, “...Go
home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for
thee, and hath had compassion on thee.”
(Mark 5:19)
Why are we to go and tell others
what God has done for us? Simple! Because “...faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
There
are no ‘secret Christians’ in God’s House! Freely we have received, just as
freely we must share the Gospel news with other lost sinners. We cannot ‘...hide our light under a
bushel...’ We must sing the New Song of
Christ’s Salvation so that other sinners can hear the good news. Sing, true Christian, sing!
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid,
neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick;
and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
Those who would seek to be ‘secret
Christians’, reveal the utter selfishness still pervading their hearts. They want to be possessors of Salvation from
sin, yet are unwilling to share the great Treasure that is Christ’s Salvation
with other sinners!
The Devil pays little attention to
such ‘dumb-dog’ Christians. By their silence concerning the ‘new song’ of
Christ’s Salvation, they are doing no harm to the Devil or his vile kingdom –
as he and his legions of fallen angels seek to keep millions of souls in
trapped in the darkness of unbelief.
Therefore, he leaves them to their cowardice and only focuses on causing
trouble for the true witnesses of Christ Jesus.
“Yea, and all that will live godly
in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
(2 Timothy 3:12)
New song Christians are Spiritually
regenerate believers in Christ; trusting in Him for Salvation; and seeking to
serve the One Who has redeemed us by His own precious and sinless Blood. We do this by singing the new song loud and
clear for all other unsaved souls to hear the glad tidings of freedom in Christ
the Lamb.
The Devil is dealt a deadly blow by
the open witness and testimony of the truly saved saint. Our honest testimony of how the Lord Jesus
saved us from our sins, is our most powerful weapon in the endless Spiritual
Battle with evil.
“And they overcame him (Satan) by
the Blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not
their lives unto the death.” (Revelation 12:11)
Verse 3. “And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even
praise unto our God. At the Passover, before His passion, our
Lord sang one of the grand old Psalms of praise; but what is the music of His
heart now, in the midst of His redeemed!
What a song is that in which His glad heart forever leads the chorus of
the elect! Not Miriam’s tabor, nor
Moses’ triumphant hymn o’er Miriam’s chivalry can for a moment rival that ever
new and exulting song. Justice magnified
and grace victorious; Hell subdued and Heaven glorified; death destroyed and
immortality established; sin overthrown and righteousness resplendent; what a
theme for a hymn in that day when our Lord drinketh the red wine new with us
all in our Heavenly Father’s Kingdom!”
(C.H. Spurgeon, Treasury of David, page 193)
Thought: If God has put the Salvation song in our mouths – let us sing
it out loud enough for other souls to hear, and come in faith to the foot of
Christ’s Cross.
